SEO Guide for Service Providers Using Squarespace

SEO

As a service business owner it's important to have an online presence. However your presence won’t mean much if your clients or even Google don’t know you exist. That’s where SEO comes in. Having good SEO is one of the most important tools you can have for your website as a business owner. It’ll make it easier for your clients to find you, and with a Squarespace website it’ll make optimizing easier, even for beginners.

But what is SEO? SEO stands for search engine optimization. The purpose of optimization is to make your website visible to search engines like Google when people search for your business. You do this by utilizing keywords specific to your industry and location, creating content relevant to your services and structuring your website to be easily indexed by search engines. For example, if you are a powerwasher in Annapolis, MD, SEO can increase your chances of appearing in searches like “powerwasher in Annapolis, MD” or “powerwasher near me”.

Keywords are words people type into a search engine to find whatever they’re looking for on the internet. The more specific to your service your keywords are the easier it is for potential customers to find you in an internet search. So if you are a commercial real estate agent who only works in the Boston area. You would be more likely to show up when someone searches for “commercial real estate agent in Boston”.

So how can you improve your SEO? There are quite a few things you can do to improve your SEO.

  • Optimize your content

    • Create content that is related to your clients pain points while using keywords related to your services.

  • Utilize Squarespace’s built-in SEO features

    • Squarespace has specifically designed their website editor to make it easier to create SEO friendly content via their blogs and adding titles and descriptions to pages and images.

  • Improve performance

    • Make sure your website images aren’t too big. Also ensure that your website is mobile friendly using the Squarespace mobile editor.

  • Connect Google console

    • Connecting Google Console to the analytics tab in Squarespace will allow Google to index your website so that it appears in search results. This will also help you track your traffic and the keywords people use to find your website. It’ll also enable you to view this info in the backend of your website.

  • Increase backlinks to your website

    • Having links to your website from other trusted websites increases your credibility. So a link from your local chamber of commerce would help.

  • Update your website with new content

    • Keep creating new content or updating existing content to show that your website is active.

Now that we’ve covered SEO and how it can help your service business increase its presence, it’s time to take the next step. Whether you’re just starting your website or looking to improve your existing one, SEO is a powerful tool to attract your ideal clients.
